Getting Started

Getting your banner up and running is easy.

Before you begin, you will need to have a web site or landing page. If you need a web site, try Rogue Valley Group.

First, purchase a block of impressions from the Rate Card below.

Then, email ALL of the following to complete your order:

  • 468w x 60h banner image. (See specifications below.)
  • Desired daily impressions limit. If not specified, your campaign will run at full speed. (1,000 or more impressions per day.)
  • ALT Text (up to 60 characters). This is displayed in browsers with images disabled or when the mouse pointer lingers on your banner.
  • Linking URL. This is the go-to destination when your banner is clicked.

CPM is "Cost Per Thousand" ad impressions, an industry standard for measuring and selling ads on web sites. The 'M' is taken from the roman numeral for "thousand."

Banner Specifications

Creative Size - 468w x 60h pixels. Banner will appear in random rotation on the top of every page.

File Size - Banners must be 30k or less.

Format - Static images (JPG or GIF) or animated GIFs.

Animation - GIF89a is the standard animation format. We impose no limit to the amount of times that an animation can repeat (or loop) so long as total file size falls under the 30k limit. Creatives should not include transparent backgrounds and frame disposal needs to be set to "do not dispose."

ALT Text - Must be provided and cannot exceed 60 characters (including spaces and punctuation).

Linking URL - A working URL (target web page) must be provided.

Border - No border will be displayed via HTML. If a border is desired it should be incorporated into the design.

Testing - All creatives must function properly on popular versions of web browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox.


Internet Campaigns 101

If you've never advertised online before, here are some basic things you might want to know.

Calculating Your CPC

CPC = Cost Per Click.

When you run an online campaign, what you really want to know is how much you pay for each click to your web site. You also want to make sure those clicks are "targeted," which is another way of saying they are good, qualified leads. In other words, not just random traffic.

Let's look at a typical example. In this sample campaign, we will assume we have a block of 200,000 impressions. The standard response rate to banner advertising may vary from 0.03 percent to 0.08 percent.

Of course, the banner itself will have a huge impact on the response rate. How well does it target its intended audience? Does it offer special savings or incentives to click? Is it well designed, eye catching and appealing? All these factors and more will play a big part in the response rate.

Based on our 200,000 impressions and the typical response rates, we can assume that we will receive anywhere from 60 to 160 clicks from our campaign. If we spent $200 on our campaign then that would be $3.33 CPC and $1.25 CPC respectively.

This is how to calculate CPC assuming 0.6 percent CTR (Click-Thru Rate):

200,000 impressions X 0.0006 CTR = 120 clicks

$200 campaign cost / 120 clicks = $1.67 CPC
